What does an AI consultancy do?
An AI consultancy helps an organisation decide where AI should be used, put the controls in place to use it safely, and implement it. At Rhentech that covers AI usage audits, governance and policy, AI agents, and private or cloud AI infrastructure, with ongoing management if you want it.
Where should we start?
Most firms start with an AI usage audit, to see what is already happening, or with a half-day or one-day executive briefing, to agree a position. Both lead naturally into a policy and a first implementation project.
Is there an AI law in South Africa yet?
Not a dedicated one. The first Draft National AI Policy was withdrawn in April 2026 after fictitious, AI-generated citations were found in it, and a revised draft was reported in October 2026 as due for ministerial input by the end of November. POPIA, including section 71 on automated decision-making, already applies to AI that processes personal information.
Are financial regulators asking about AI?
Yes. On 24 April 2026 the Prudential Authority told supervised financial institutions that frontier AI compresses the time between a vulnerability being found and exploited, and that its focus is moving from awareness to execution. Firms supervised by the FSCA and the Prudential Authority should expect AI to feature in supervisory dialogue.
How are AI engagements structured and priced?
Entry is a half-day or one-day executive briefing or policy workshop. Implementation runs as projects with milestones, and governance, monitoring and optimisation as a monthly retainer that can be combined with Rhentech managed IT. Fees are agreed in writing before work starts.
Can you keep our data out of public AI services?
Yes. We can deploy models inside your own cloud tenant or on hardware you control, so prompts and documents never reach a public AI provider. We recommend this where the sensitivity of the data justifies it, and say so when a cloud service is the better choice.
